MICHAEL MELANCON

Michael Melancon is an accomplished designer of practical organizational effectiveness strategies for a wide range of companies.  He is a strategic business partner focused on maximizing company performance and profitability through precise alignment of human resource initiatives with core business objectives.  Mike is an effective change management architect with national experience aligning widely divergent corporate cultures and processes in conjunction with corporate restructuring, process reengineering, mergers and acquisitions. 

An area of special expertise for Mike is assisting work teams to increase their interpersonal effectiveness.  He has facilitated team building sessions in organizations in which there has been a change in leadership, management, or ownership.  He has significant experience working with senior management teams to strengthen partnerships and clarify vision, mission, goals and objectives. 

Mike has considerable expertise and experience as a management coach, assisting management at all levels to hone their leadership skills.  He is particularly effective in guiding an organization’s leaders through difficult employee relations challenges.  By helping managers to identify organizational options and assess related risks, he works to maximize management’s flexibility, while minimizing potential liability.


Mike has nearly 30 years of experience directing all disciplines of human resource management in service, technology and financial service industries, as well as in manufacturing, health care administration and higher education.  Since February of 2004, Mike has provided organizational consulting services through Wilday Scott and Company to a wide range of private clients in Seattle and across the United States.  From January of 2000 until 2004, Mike worked for ProBusiness, a boutique provider of Outsourced Payroll and Human Resources services for Fortune 500 companies.  As Vice President of HR, Mike directed the company’s Human Resources program, and designed and implemented outsourced HR and Payroll administrative products and services.  Prior to this, he was Practice Leader for the Washington Firm’s Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness Consulting Practice.  From 1990 through 1997, Mike was Vice President of Organizational Effectiveness and Human Resources for Cost Care, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company, which was subsequently acquired by WellPoint Health Services, one of the nations largest publicly traded managed health care corporations. 

Mike trained in adult learning theory at the University of California, where he holds a B.S. in Applied Behavioral Science.  After graduating from U.C. Davis, Mike worked and lectured in human resource management for the University of California at both the Davis and Irvine campuses and medical centers.
